Bra Selection “101″

There have been many media reports that up to 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. Many circumstances can contribute, such as:

• Not being properly measured,
• Losing or gaining weight – a 5 to 7 pound change in weight can make a difference in how a bra will fit your body,
• Increasing or decreasing style, duration or intensity of exercise,
• Changes in body due to the natural progression of aging, pregnancy, surgery, and many other factors,
• How our bodies store fat,
• Changes in hormones, and many more!

Foundations are THE MOST important items a woman can use to enhance and flatter her figure.  There are many products available these days to slim, shape, squeeze, enhance, reduce or otherwise alter the appearance of almost any body part or combination of body parts; however, without proper foundations, you are simply adding layers to camouflage and not enhance your assets.  A woman’s wardrobe should begin with a proper fitting bra.  Don’t be afraid of the numbers…. And don’t settle for compensating by trying to fit a 34D bust into a 36C bra, because you will not be comfortable down the line and your appearance will reflect this.  Also keep in mind that no 2 bras are alike; even the same manufacturer will likely make different styles that fit your body differently and some may work like a dream while others… not so much!

The basic essential is a t-shirt style bra, designed to present a smooth look to any fitted garment.  There are many choices of t-shirt bras designed to position your assets where you want them and provide the amount of  “cold weather” coverage you are comfortable with.  Cups can be molded or not, contain foam, bump pads, cookies or be engineered in any number of ways to lift, separate, push together or otherwise render your chest the picture of a perfect pin up.  A bra that fits properly will define your waist and slim your torso, enhance your posture and help your bust defy age and gravity.

In addition to the t-shirt bra, depending on the outfit you are wearing, the image you want to project and the mood you are in, there are many other bras to consider having in your wardrobe such as strapless, demi, sheer, lace, contour, convertible, plunge, balcony, and the list goes on………  but no matter what style of bra you find yourself gravitating to, it should fit properly and present your assets to flatter and enhance your shape and overall image.
